My NEW BOOK covers the epic story in a Cliffs note format describing Moses’s leading Israel out of Egypt, crossing the Red Sea, tracking through the desert in Numbers and Deuteronomy over a 24- month period to Kadesh-Barnea. Kadesh-Barnea is where Moses sent 12- spies into Canaan to perform reconnaissance over a 40—day period.
The Lost Paradise at Kadesh-Barnea is where the spies return to provide an after-action report to Moses and the people. What was interesting, Moses and the spies weren’t sent into Canaan to determine if conquering the land was possible; but to get the lay-of-the-land and see the bountifulness of the land.
The focus of this book is on the 10:2 decision with 10 of the spies expressing their doubts about conquering the land that would become the Nation of Israel. The two spies, Joshua and Caleb, were the only two spies that were convinced that they could achieve God’s objectives with God leading the fight for Israel.
Moses’ Doubtfulness in Leadership
The Lost Paradise at Kadesh-Barnea also looks at the actual reason why Moses was forbidden by God to enter the Promised Land. Moses gives the sole reason for not entering the Promised Land as when he struck the Rock at Meribah with his staff instead of speaking to the Rock to provide water for the people and their livestock in Numbers 20:3 “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.”
If you look at the chronological timeline in the book of Numbers, Moses striking the second Rock, that he was referring to, was after the 10:2 decision at Kadesh-Barnea. As the result of Israel’s lack of faith in God in Numbers 14:30 stated- “Not one of you will enter the land I swore with an uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb…and Joshua...”
This would have also included Moses as among those NOT ALLOWED to enter the Promised Land and not for Moses’ sole reason, he gave up striking the Rock at Meribah. Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible that would include Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
If I was writing an explanation about one of my failures, I would focus on the failure highlighting where I acted with Alpha, strong and aggressive, intention instead of a Beta, doubt and deceitfulness, response. I would have also opted to describe my failure in terms of an Alpha reaction of aggression as opposed to a Beta reaction of unfaithfulness. This was a common tendency of Moses to doubt and be hesitant.
This was demonstrated on the west bank of the Red Sea where God told Moses to get up off your knees and go across the Red Sea on dry land in Exodus 14:15-16:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelite to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelite can go through the sea on dry ground.
From a Jewish Perspective of the Book of Joshua
The main purpose of The Lost Paradise at Kadesh-Barnea is to walk through the Book of Joshua from a Jewish perspective looking at Joshua and Caleb in their 80’s conquering Canaan over a period of five years from Jericho to the surveying and writing descriptions to the land divided among the eleven tribes of Israel. The tribe of Levi wasn’t allotted land as such.
Both Joshua and Caleb are among some of the most faithful leaders in Jewish History that followed God with their mind, body, and soul with perseverance and commitment.
The reason the Book of Joshua intrigues me is the blessings of age-defying lifestyle of health and fitness as noted by Caleb at age 85 in his discussions with Joshua in Chapter 14:10 thru 13:
NOTE: Caleb was 40 years old when he went and spied out the land of Canaan. Caleb spent 40 years in the wilderness with the Lost Generation. It took Israel 5 years to conquer Canaan.

The Sayeret Matkal (Sa`yette´ MaT-Kal) Unit was created in 1957 that was modeled after the British Special Air Service (SAS). One of the Sayeret Matkal notable missions was on July, 4th, 1976 to rescue hostages that were hijacked on a French flight and flown to Entebbe, Uganda. The raid on Entebbe that consisted of a 29-man Sayeret assault team that was led by Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan Netanyahu, the brother of future Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that was killed during this mission.
This book is based on two fictional characters, Lieutenants Colonel Max Sotenberg and Lieutenants Colonel Yigael Rosenstraus. Lieutenant Colonel Sotenberg and Rosenstraus were in their mid-30’s that looked like they had just stepped out of central casting for one of Ian Fleming James Bond, 007, movie series. They were both trained in Krav Maga combat tactics, military strategies, trained in military intelligence, and spoke five different languages.
