Importance of Prostate Cancer Awareness– The news of former President Biden’s diagnosis of Stage 4 Prostate Cancer is a wake-up call to us men, especially to those of us over the age 40 to have an Annual Physicals

I am all too aware of Prostate Cancer in my own life being that I had an above normal PSA result. My PSA in November of 2023 was 6.2 (Healthy PSA is at or below 4.0). My biopsy that I had on December 20th, 2023 indicated that I had Stage 1 Cancer. If you want something that gets your attention, just have your doctor tell you that you have Cancer.

Guys just to show how aggressive Prostate Cancer can be, by the time I had my Prostatectomy (removal of the Prostate) on February 05th, 2024, my Prostate Cancer reached Stage 2. Within a span of just two months, my Prostate Cancer went from Stage 1 to Stage 2. So this is a very serious guy!

Former President Biden’s Case

I can’t say if the physical exam that former President Biden had back in February of 2024 indicated any precursors to his Cancer or that he didn’t want the results of his cancer released to the public. Sometimes the readings are just over four that would just warrant watching. But I am glad that former President Biden did release to the public his Stage 4 Prostate Cancer diagnoses that have unfortunately metastasized; in Biden’s case, it spread to his bones.

Start having your PSA Done at age 40 or Earlier

Guys, this shows you how important it is to get your PSA annually, especially if you are over the age of 40. And if you have a history of Prostate Cancer in your family, you need to start testing earlier based on your physician’s recommendation. AGAIN GUYS, THIS IS NOTHING TO NEGLECT! Biden’s case shows you the need to continue having your PSA checked well into your 80’s even.

My Prognosis, Treatment, and Side Effects

I was able to catch my Prostate Cancer early enough at age 66, that the prognosis and treatment of my cancer were very successful. My Urologist that was also my surgeon suggested a Prostatectomy (removal of the Prostate) in my case based on Testosterone readings that fuel my Prostate Cancer. Within two months, I experienced very little side effects that I managed to overcome within two months. Incontinence is one of the main side effects that I was able to take care of  in 5- weeks after I got back into my gym to resume my routine workouts.

My post workout recovery had unexpected beneficial results that eliminated my incontinence. After my workouts up to having surgery, I normally took cold plunges to address my soreness and to tone up after my routine workouts. After a week of cold plunges (water temperature of 56° F), I completely stop my incontinence. If you have never taken a cold plunge before, start with warmer temperatures and accumulate yourself to cooler temperatures gradually, over time.

This was taken last September, 2024, while I was working out on my boxing bag at age 68 going through my KRAV MAGA part of my workout that takes 75- minutes to perform. If there is one photoshoot that is a critical critique of your fitness, it is a side shot of your abdominal area.

Now 17- months out from my Prostatectomy, I have a normal lifestyle that I credit God and my physical fitness routine that I have maintained since my mid-30’s. Any recovery from surgery can be enhanced with physical fitness that includes strength training with yoga, aerobic and cardio exercises. Probably two of my best cardio exercises that I use are KRAV MAGA (self-defense) training and cycling that I do 8- miles per day.

Guys, DO NOT Neglect Your Annual Exams

Last November, 2024, after a photoshoot we did of my TOP ACE Sportswear, I did an AB Challenge in our hangar just before an airshow that we were putting on for a fund raiser for our aeronautic museum. These type shoots take strength training.

Guys also just because you are healthy and fit as I was even at 65, you can still have Prostate Cancer, as in my case. The key is early detection guys that any physician, NP, or PA will tell you. If you haven’t had your physical in a while, please schedule one today, your life may depend on it. GOOD NEWS- Most doctors don’t do the physical exam of the Prostate any more. They do a PSA test with a blood sample you give for other tests to be run.

I had my Prostate exam done on December 20th, 2023 right before my biopsy on December 26th by the Urologist that stated that my Prostate felt normal. This is why guys, the physical exam of the Prostate is not reliable to hang your baseball cap or your tool belt on.

While I was recovering from surgery, Dexter Scott King, the same age as I was in January of 2024, died of Prostate Cancer. PLEASE GET YOUR PSA Tested DO NOT WAIT!

Let me leave you with this statistic– One in eight (8) white men and one in seven (7) black men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. Those are about the same odds for women being diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Ladies get check up please. It is vital that you maintain your health and fitness, especially after your mid-30’s. I’m able to maintain my fitness with THE SARSO DIET & FITNESS Program where your just not dropping weight and inches off, but you are dropping decades off your appearance, as well:
