Last month, I published an Age-Defying Lifestyle article on my Tabletop Crunch exercise along with nine (9) AB exercises to help address my back issues. The Tabletop Crunch helped to realign my spine and strengthen my abdominal muscles to relieve my back issues. Strong AB muscles help support the spine and help eliminate back issues, especially as we age. But with one variation to my Tabletop Crunch, I experience something I hadn’t felt in 4- years, total relief from my back issues.

I was sitting on my back porch yesterday morning enjoying my coffee when I had an idea on a variation to my Tabletop AB crunch that has been a tremendous help in reducing my back issues that stemmed from my Prostatectomy surgery in February of 2024. Cancer and surgery can adversely effect nerves, especially the sciatic nerve. Such was the case from my bout with my Prostate Cancer that was diagnosed in December of 2023.

I always have my feet propped up on a bench when I am rocking on my back porch. That gave me an idea to create a possible update to the Tabletop AB Crunch Element. How about anchoring my feet under my bench in my gym next time I work out. I have grab bars mounted in my gym in four (4) places for my yoga exercises.

My NEW Anchor Tabletop AB Crunch Variation

The AB Tabletop Crunch is done with a quarter raising of the back off the floor. You want to tighten your AB’s muscles and not over flex your back muscles that can irritate your symptoms.

Like any new exercise or variation to an existing exercise, I just perform a few reps at first, I perform just 15 reps of my Tabletop AB Crunch Variation. Fifteen reps is what I do with each of my sets of 3 in the normal workout routine that I do. This version consisted of me just anchoring my feet under a grab bar on the front of the bench in my gym, shown above and below, where Brandy is performing the Tabletop AB Crunch Variation.

As soon as I got up from just performing 15 reps of my Tabletop AB Crunch Variation Exercises and nothing else, I knew it had a positive impact on ALL of my back issues that included eliminating the tightness in my calves and numbness in my feet. The numbness in my feet had the most negative impact on my daily activities, because it affects my balance that could result in a fall. YOU WANT TO PREVENT ALL FALLS!

Working on my farm, in my welding shop, or in our hangar flying, your feet need to work. Just 15 reps of the Anchor Tabletop AB Crunch have eliminated all my back symptoms including the worst symptom, that being numbness in my feet.

Starting Any New Exercise or Variation to an Exercise

Like any new or variation to a current exercise, you need to start slow and limit the number of reps that you perform until you get acclimated and find out the effects the new element or variation of an existing exercise to your body has. This especially goes for strength training and flexing elements from yoga poses.

But the response that I received from the Anchor Tabletop AB Crunch was dramatic and quick where within 15- minutes I knew I got relief from all my back symptoms, not just some of them, but ALL of them. This extended to the following day when I was working in my welding shop on my feet for 4- hours and when I went to pick up chili supplies from Walmart and material from the hardware store. I didn’t experience any of the normal tight calves or numb feet during the entire day.

This was just doing 15 reps of the Anchor Tabletop AB Crunch in my gym last night, Wednesday (01Oct2025).
