In the feature photograph, I am 68 years old doing a photoshoot for our Classic Car & Airshow with one of my models. I have the health and fitness that I had in my mid-30’s, workout 6- Days a week, eat a healthy diet, work in my welding shop, involved in aviation, cover sports, and fitness.
In October of 2023, at age 65, I started experiencing ED and back issues, both were unusual for me to have. I scheduled my regular November’s physical with my general practitioner. My PSA Test was performed with my blood test. My PSA results were 6.2 (normally healthy PSA Test should be 4.0). NOTE: A man may not have any of these symptoms that I just mentioned, they may not have any symptoms until the later stages of Prostate Cancer. Guys you DO NOT want to wait until than.
In December of 2023, I had a biopsy performed that indicated that I had stage 1 Prostate Cancer, that was a shock to me, as THE ‘C’ Word is to anyone. I had two options- ONE– Was to hold off on a Prostatectomy and monitor my PSA in the coming months. TWO– Was to schedule a Prostatectomy in February of 2024. When it comes to CANCER, I want to be on the safe side, so I choose Option TWO. I had too many friends die of Prostate cancer for me to take it lightly.
Believe me, when you hear your name used in the same sentence with CANCER, it has your undivided attention.
The Death of Dexter Scott King due to Prostate Cancer
To highlight that we choose the correct option, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. youngest son, Dexter Scott King lost his battle with prostate cancer on January 22, 2024, while I was waiting to have my prostatectomy on February 06, 2023. The main reason I didn’t want to take Option ONE was the chance of my prostate cancer progressing to Stage 2, or beyond. I didn’t want to Wait because the chances on my cancer metastasizing, (spreading to other parts of my body including my pelvis area that would lead to bladder or bone cancer).
Prostate Cancer is nothing to fool around with GUYS, it is deadly! GET YOU PSA TEST DONE with your annual checkup GUY!
The Results from my Biopsy
Two weeks after my operation, I returned to my Urologist in Jackson, Mississippi, for urodynamic test to see if the bladder possibly had been affected during the prostatectomy and to receive the pathological results on my prostate. The pathological test revealed that I didn’t have Stage 1 Cancer at all, I had Stage 2 Cancer. After treatments, now 18 months later, I am cancer FREE! I will continue to have checkups for the near future.
Guy go get Your PSA Test
I encourage every guy over the age of 40 to go get their physical and have a PSA Test done. ALSO- Please check your blood pressure daily, monthly blood sugar, and cholesterol semi-annually. You can purchase a wrist blood pressure cuff and glucose monitor at your drug store or Walmart. The cholesterol monitor is a little more difficult to find and is expensive. I have my cholesterol check at my doctor’s office every six months.
Side Effects from a Prostatectomy
The major side effects from a Prostatectomy are first incontinence, incontinence can continue between 6 months to 18 months after your surgery. Performing the pelvic floor exercises and my cryogenics therapy (cold plunges) after my JOCK-CRX Fitness workouts was very effective to stop my incontinence. I was able to stop my incontinence within 6 weeks of my surgery. I was using cryogenics just tone up my body and reduce stiffness and soreness in my joints, I have no idea cryogenics would stop my incontinence within 6 weeks.
A Second Side Effect of Prostatectomy
The second side effect that I am recovering from now, in my case, was due to what is referred to as surgical manipulation that resulted in a slight amount of tightness in my calve muscles and some numbness in my feet. But I had the same side effects of surgical manipulation after my hip replacement surgery in 2014. Nerves do not like to be fooled around with, and they will let you know about it.
Supplements to Improve Recovery and have a Healthy Lifestyle
ED along with tight calf muscles and numb feet can be improved with exercises and taking supplements to improve blood flow like L-ARGININE and GINKGO BILOBA and eating sauerkraut, you will be surprised by the health impact of these supplements and especially eating 1 Tablespoon of sauerkraut once a day, usually at my evening meal.
